Plight of the Pound Dogs

HUNDREDS of healthy dogs are dying every day.

THOUSANDS of wonderful, family dogs are dying every year.

WHY?

......... because they had the misfortune to fall into the cruel and uncaring hands of irresponsible people who did not give them the love they deserved ......  simple as that.

Stray dogs are collected by dog wardens and taken to Council 'pounds' (kennels paid for by the local authority).  If these dogs are not claimed within 7 days they can be destroyed.  Whilst every attempt is made to re-home them, many dogs are not that lucky.  As the kennels become full, the dogs who have been there for the greatest amount of time are taken away and put to sleep to make room for more stray dogs who are brought in.

Look at your own dog.  Can you bear to think of him or her sitting on death row feeling frightened, rejected and miserable, awaiting their fate?  These poor dogs have done nothing to deserve this.

Some pound dogs require tender, loving care as they have been through traumatic experiences and need to build their confidence and learn to trust again.  Many have simply been cast aside and thrown onto the streets due to a change in the circumstances of their previous owners (eg the break down of a relationship, the birth of a baby) or just because the novelty of having a dog has worn off.  These dogs are wonderful family pets who would so appreciate being cared for.

This is Sam in a council pound.

Look into his eyes and see the eyes of thousands of dogs who have been put to sleep through no fault of their own.

This is Sam today.

Sam was saved on the very day he was going to be put to sleep.  With no interest shown in him, the dog warden was on his way to bring in more stray dogs and take Sam away to die.  Sam was offered a home with less than an hour to his death sentence. Sam is now an affectionate, mischievous, happy dog who is full of fun.  He enjoys to play with other dogs, loves a cuddle on your knee despite being 20kg! and is a complete 'softie'.  Sam has been given the chance of the happy life he deserves.

Are you a special person who can help a pound dog like Sam?

Can you open your heart and offer a permanent or foster home to a pound dog?

Look again into the eyes of an innocent, desperate soul who just needed to be loved.
